Doreen Taylor-Claxton - Margaret
Praised by critics for “exquisite singing” and welcomed by audiences for her emotional commitment to performance, Doreen Taylor-Claxton is equally comfortable in concert and on the theatrical stage. She has been heard in recital for CBC Radio Jeunes Artistes, Artscape and Classical Encounters, and featured as a soloist with The University of Ottawa Orchestra, The Toronto Sinfonietta, and The Impressions in Jazz Orchestra. She has performed roles in musical and operatic productions with NAC Pops Orchestra, Opera Lyra Ottawa, and New Opera Lyra.

Her art song project In Need of Song Collaborations resulted in five productive collaborative partnerships. She premiered the works produced from these partnerships at festivals in Canada and the U.S. and recorded them on the CD HAIL: Canadian Art Song in partnership with CanSona Arts Media. Her discography also includes Imprints: Music by Colin Mack, CanSona Arts Media, Inspiration 4, University of Ottawa Press and most recently John Gordon Armstrong: Vistas, CMC Centrediscs.

Her work as a founding member of the women’s theatre collective Deluxe Hot Sauce, contributed to the group’s “musically infused, movement-rich” aesthetic which integrated various artistic disciplines and modes of story telling. The collective’s productions of Medea and SKIN were nominated for Prix Rideau Awards in 2008 and 2013.

Doreen teaches for the School of Music and Theatre Department at the University of Ottawa.
